Yemi Bamiro

Yemi Bamiro is a 26-year-old writer/director based in South East London.

Yemi Bamiro started his career at MTV Networks Europe as a work experience placement in 2003. While studying for his BA in American Studies and History at Brunel University, Yemi did work experience at MTV for 2 days a week, working alongside producers and directors on various tasks which included preparing kit for shoots, preparing scripts, helping out on shoots and generally assisting wherever and whenever required.

Graduating in 2004, Yemi took up an intern position at MTV and eventually worked his way up to a shooting assistant producer. Yemi’s time at MTV allowed him to develop and nurture his natural interest in camerawork and scripting, which in turn enabled him to shoot produce and direct a number of short music documentaries for the broadcaster.

Yemi wrote, produced and directed his first short film in 2007. Entitled “Love Is”, the emotive short film depicted the despair, angst and insight of a strained teenage relationship. The story is told through the use of spoken word poetry. “Love Is” was screened at the BFI as part of the Future Festival 2008.

Yemi’s second film “My War Is Yours” was completed in June 2009. A provocative and thoughtful piece of drama, the film portrays the plight of a young soldier who was paralysed while on service, and who is struggling to come to terms with his disability. The film has already been screened at Kino London (a monthly film night) where it received a great reception.

Yemi is currently working on his third short film, which he hopes to have shot by the end of the year.
