The Southern Exposure Film Fund
The Southern Exposure Film Fund is match funded by Film London and is open to filmmakers living within the boroughs of Lewisham, Lambeth and Southwark.
The fund is open annually and this year, three grants of £3000 each will be awarded to outstanding filmmakers from the three boroughs. The projects will receive additional support in the key areas of development, production, post production and marketing/distribution through a unique series of ten evening masterclasses alongside one-to-one support.
Previous films have gone on to win completion funding from the UKFC and be screened at Cannes, SXSW, Edinburgh, London and Palm Springs Film Festivals. In 2008 The Beachcombers won the £2000 Audience Award, and in 2010 Assessment won the Jury Prize at the Best of Borough Awards held at Bafta in July. Alumna Destiny Ekaragha was named as a Screen International Star of Tomorrow and will be shooting her first feature with funding from the BFI.
PLEASE NOTE: THE FUND FOR 2011 IS NOW CLOSED. Sign up for the newsletter to receive more information throughout the year.
Black History Month Film Challenge in association with The Albany
In 2010, the last year of the fund, young people worked with professional documentary filmmakers Wayne Campbell and Joyce Treasure to edit some trailers promoting ONE MINUTE IN MAY, Wayne's documentary about the campaign for a minute's silence at all Premiere League games for the victims of gun and knife crime.
The trailers were screened at the Albany on 12 October 2010 along with a Q&A with the editors to discuss how material is manipulated and shaped to present compelling stories. Local filmmaker Baff Akoto's acclaimed 50 minute documentary FOOTBALL FABLES about the African football industry also screened.

Day with the Devil (2005), produced for Southern Exposure.

One English Winter, produced for Black History Month Short Film Challenge (2008).
